Nano-CEMMS specifically recruits teachers from schools that enroll a significant population of underrepresented students.

The Center is funded through a Math and Science Partnership Grant from the Illinois State Board of Education for its UIUC Nanotechnology Institutes for Teacher Enhancement (UNITE).  This program offers two-week institutes that allow teachers to engage in hands-on research and the development of nanotechnology classroom activities.

Additionally, presentations at many teacher workshops, conferences, and in-service days introduce mathematics, science and industrial arts teachers to nanoscience research and facilitate knowledge transfer to their students.
